Lactic Acid Peels

Lactic acid is a mild Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which is derived from sour milk. It is commonly used for light or superficial chemical peels for gentle skin resurfacing.

Chemical peels use medical grade acids of specific strengths for requisite effect. Lactic acid has been utilized for smooth, youthful skin since the days of Cleopatra’s milk baths in ancient Egypt. Milk products such as cream and curd are common elements of grandmothers’ skin care remedies. Lactic acid is available from 10% to 90% formulations for in-clinic chemical peels.

A few sessions of lactic acid peels can give an individual a perceptibly smoother complexion. These peels are well suited to persons with very sensitive skin and/or rosacea. They cause no discomfort, have no downtime and require minimal after care (primarily moisturizer and sunscreen).

Used periodically in milder concentrations, lactic peels also help rejuvenate dry, damaged and acne prone oily skin. The large molecule of lactic acid does not penetrate quickly into the skin and exerts maximal effect on the epidermis. It also stimulates the synthesis of new collagen fibres.

By hydration and controlled exfoliation of the superficial skin layers, lactic acid can help reduce signs of damage and premature ageing, such as uneven pigmentation, age spots, tanning, wrinkles, fine lines and acne scars.
